The drive from Kingston to Montego Bay and on to Round Hill, in Hanover, is quite sweet nowadays. With new pothole free roads and of course the soothing countryside outside your window, the 3 1/2 hour trip flew by.
Turn into the unassuming Round Hill gate, and you're dazzled by a world of super relaxed, high living. Beyond the lawns of the expansive property that was once a plantation estate owned by the late, late John Pringle, you'll find large villas decorated by Ralph Lauren who is himself an owner of one of the property's larger and more divine villas. Individually owned by wealthy families the world over, a Round Hill villa is exquisite.
Shall we say Peace and Quiet... There's no better way to describe Round Hill. Intimate, calming and serene - are other words that can be used to describe a stay at Round Hill. Beyond the lavish island landscape and clean and classy beauty, the essence of being at Round Hill seems to be calm, quiet and serenity. We're not the only ones that think so, either. While lounging on the beach all day for two full days, I couldn't help but eavesdrop on a few conversations. Again and again I heard the same sentiments echoed by people travelling from all over the globe.
With such serenity, it's no wonder that Round Hill is home to several yoga retreats each year. During our two-day trip we bumped into one group of retreaters who we could have labelled yogis from first glance. The hippie swag and peace-loving talks gave them away immediately. The next yoga retreat will be in March. Yoga is held at the hotel's one-of-a-kind fitness & spa centre, which is located a seaside walk away from the main beach. The trod to this little spot is fitness-inducing in and of itself… But, with the views of Round Hill's natural beauty, it's always worth it.
Food at Round Hill is luxurious, much like everything else on property including the room, the spa, the beach, the service and its natural setting. In 2009, Round Hill hosted it's first ever Food Weekend and will be hosting more of such foodie events in the future.
