Reggae Marathon 2009The Reggae Marathon is Jamaica’s premier international marathon event, and was included last year, in the world’s top ten marathons.

Held annually in Negril the “capital of casual”, the ninth renewal is scheduled for December 5th, 2009, and is much anticipated by local and international runners and walkers. The event is also renowned for the highly acclaimed, World's Best Pasta Party at the Swept Away sports complex which features a variety of gourmet pasta dishes.

Reggae Marathon RunnersLast December, local veteran long distance runners Linton McKenzie and Arieta Martin copped the top spots. From a field of 754 entrants representing 18 countries, McKenzie was first past the tape in 2:40:08 while Martin led the female finishers in 3:28:16. Other winners were Kirk Brown who took the Half Marathon in 1:10:42 and Terri Rejimbal of Tampa, Florida who led the females in 1:23:18. Kemoy Campbell with a time of 30:35 and Natoya Goule (36:41) came out ahead in the highly competitive 10K.

Reggae Marathon RunnersCommenting on the 10K which was introduced in 2008, race director Alfred Francis said “the race was highly competitive and generated a lot of excitement.”

Reggae Marathon RunnersAlso at last year’s "Finish Line" victory party were international reggae stars Third World who closed the activities and delighted the crowd with a memorable performance.

Organizers of the event, the Jamdammers Running Club of Kingston, are now working along with their Negril partners and sponsors to ensure another great event come December.
